6 kinds of practical auto repair tools

Socket Set

The socket kit is arguably the tool you need most when you use it in a car. A suitable set of mechanics tools should include standard and metric sizes and 3/8-inch, 1/4-inch, or even 1/2-inch drives and slots. Extensions and thin wall sockets are also useful in certain situations.

Pliers and cutting pliers

You can carry out a large number of electrical projects on the vehicle, such as installing a stereo host, speakers or connecting new headlights. You will need pliers of various sizes as well as wire cutters and wire strippers.

Torque wrench

Beginners often overlook setting the nut to an appropriate torque. Over-tightening the nut will cause the bolt to shear and is more difficult to remove when needed. Use a ratchet torque wrench to ensure that it is tightened to the correct specifications. To adjust the torque, simply turn the bottom handle and align its top with the specified torque printed on the tool. Tighten until you hear two clicks, and then finish.

Do not use a torque wrench to remove the lug nuts, but use an impact wrench or a breaker, otherwise the settings on the torque wrench may be damaged.

Wrench

The wrench kit is a valuable addition to any mechanical toolbox. We like Craftsman's ratchet wrench kit, which has open sides and a ratchet box end, so there is no need to remove the wrench every time you turn.

Screwdriver

A screwdriver set is useful for the surrounding house because it is in your garage, but you may need to unfold it that you already own. Get a full set of tools, including a larger flat head (which can double as a small prying tool) and a very delicate screwdriver, enough for electronic work.

Dead blow mallet

One hammer and one hammer is the only solution many times, when it comes to removing the stuck bolts. Hitting this hammer a few times, perhaps heating it a little more, will loosen almost everything. The mallet is covered with molded polyethylene material to prevent damage to the metal surface.
