A bearing separator is a mechanical tool with a flat, tapered surface that is inserted behind a bearing, gear, or pulley, and used with a puller to remove the component from a shaft, especially in tight spaces where other puller jaws won't fit. The separator creates a secure pulling point, while the puller exerts force to separate the component from the shaft or housing.

Features of Bearing Seaprator
Two-Piece Design
Bearing separators typically consist of two halves that can be bolted together around the component to be removed. This design allows them to fit into tight spaces and around components that are flush against surfaces.
Tapered Edges
The edges of the bearing separator are tapered, allowing them to slide under the bearing or gear and provide a secure grip without damaging the component or the shaft.
Durable Construction
Made from hardened steel or other durable materials, bearing separators are built to withstand the high forces required to separate tightly fitted components.
There are primarily two types of bearing splitters: hydraulic and manual. Hydraulic bearing splitters are powered by a hydraulic pump, which applies pressure to expand the splitter jaws or arms, allowing for controlled separation of the bearing from its mounting surface. These splitters offer precise force adjustment and are suitable for a wide range of bearing sizes and tightness levels. They are often favored for heavy-duty applications and professional use due to their efficiency and convenience.
On the other hand, manual bearing splitters rely on hand-operated levers or screws to exert force on the splitter arms, requiring physical effort from the user. While they may not offer the same level of precision and ease of use as hydraulic splitters, manual splitters are still effective for smaller tasks or situations where a hydraulic system is not available. Both types of bearing splitters play essential roles in mechanical work, providing reliable solutions for bearing removal in various industrial and automotive settings.

Application of Bearing Separator
Automotive Repair
Widely used for removing wheel hub bearings, gearbox bearings, and other components from engines, transmissions, and differentials.
Industrial Machinery
Essential for maintaining motors, pumps, gearboxes, and other rotating equipment where access to bearings can be limited.
Manufacturing and Assembly
Used during the production process of new equipment to install or remove bearings from machinery.
Agriculture and Heavy Equipment
Applied for the maintenance and repair of farm machinery and construction equipment, such as cranes and excavators.
Bearing Puller Sets
Like most tool types, bearing pullers can be purchased individually or as part of a bearing puller tool set. As a rule, you can expect a puller set to include a puller, pump, hose, and pressure gauge. Some bearing puller sets will also include different bearing puller types (external and internal) as well as a bearing separator.
Whether you buy a set or just invest in individual pullers on an ad hoc basis largely depends on the nature of your work and how frequently you require a puller day-to-day.
